3. Hygiene
- Bathroom. In caring for the child’s skin is essential bathroom. Bathing the child should be daily. The water should be warm (approximately at a temperature of 36 º C) and atmosphere of the room must be warm (at a temperature of about 23 to 24 º C). It will use a gel and a soft sponge and we will take special care in cleaning the folds. Drying is done with a soft towel, preferably cotton.
- Diaper area. In the hygiene of the skin deserves special attention cleaning the diaper area. In this area, due to moisture and contact with urine and feces of children, are common skin irritations and infections (yeast, usually). It is therefore very important for frequent diaper changing and washing of the area covered by the diaper. Protective creams are recommended (pasta water, for example) after each wash.
If there is a redness that we may no longer yield to a simple irritation, but rather a fungal infection. In this case you should consult with your pediatrician who will assess the application of some anti-fungal ointment.
4. Accident prevention
The skin is the organ most exposed to accidents at home. The most common injuries are abrasions and wounds and burns.
- The wounds may have multiple causes, but are common and preventable those caused by sharp objects and / or sharp commonly used in homes such as knives, scissors, razors, etc. We must prevent them keeping these objects in a location out of reach.
- Burns are one of the most frequent accidents, especially in young children. Injuries resulting from burns, due to the fragile skin of children, can have serious consequences. The location of the house more dangerous is the kitchen and the most common cause of sunburn is usually a hot liquid. Therefore, we must prevent access of young children unaccompanied by an adult in the kitchen or the room where there is a significant source of heat.
