Estrogen is the most effective treatment for postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Its mechanism of action is unknown and that osteoblastic absorbable anti is therefore effective. If treatment is put in time decreases the risk of fractures.
The effective dose is 0.625 mg of conjugated estrogen. This dose is higher than effective in the treatment of cutaneous flush (become red), but necessary and effective, besides being free of side effects.
Among the disadvantages is that after 2 years it produces a hypertrophy of the endometrium, and vaginal bleeding 3 to 8% increase in endometrial cancer.You can compensate with medroxyprogesterone guidelines 2.5 to 10 mg per day, 10 days each month. In favor of taking estrogen hormones in the case of a woman:
- thin
- sedentary
- smoker
- to which the uterus was removed.
Contrary to hormones in the case of a woman:
- obese
- physically active
- suffering from thrombosis
- history of breast cancer
Smoking or taking cimetidine (antiulcer) cancels the beneficial effect of estrogen.
