It is a severe headache, throbbing type (like a heartbeat), which usually affects the middle of the head. It can affect any age group, being more common in women than in men. The cause of migraine is unknown.

During an attack, cerebral vessels dilate simultaneously with the stimulation of nerve endings around the affected vessels. These blood vessel changes are probably responsible for the pain.

Is it hereditary migraine?

Family is between a predisposition to suffer from migraine, but is not yet known how far it can be hereditary.What can trigger a migraine?

Most patients with migraine triggers recognized as foods such as cheese, chocolate or wine. Other causes include anxiety, exercise, birth control pills and travel. These factors vary according to each patient. In some women, are more frequent migraine attacks related to the menstrual cycle.

Patients with migraine should avoid alcohol, snuff, lack of sleep and food that they recognize as triggers of their disease.

Migraine can occur very commonly for long periods and then disappear for weeks, months or even years.
