The answer to that question may be the key to say goodbye to the uncomfortable dryness. Read on to find out what are the possible causes of dry skin, so take the first step toward the softness of your skin.

Your skin can become dry for many reasons, some obvious and others less so. For example, it is common to hear that the skin is dry during the winter, but as the cold increases, the humidity decreases. And so you decide to stay indoors to avoid exposing your skin to intense cold, heat and stoves or fireplaces also contribute to dry your skin as warm air reduces the moisture.

And the story is repeated throughout the summer. The sun is the main factor that dries your skin at this time of year. If you’re a long time in the sun, and do not protect yourself from UV rays, they can penetrate several layers of your skin breaking down elastin and collagen which keeps it hydrated and soft. This creates deep lines that eventually give the feeling that you have dry skin.

Besides the sun, the air conditioning also helps reduce moisture in enclosed spaces. And your skin can suffer a lot if you live in a desert area like California or Northern Mexico, because the dry climate and sandy too dry.

But did you know that you also bathe excessively dry skin? That’s right! This may not seem so clear, excess water in your skin breaks the layer of lipids (fat) that protects it. So is not recommended to bathe in the shower or tub for very long times, and less if you like very hot water. Nor is it good to be a long time in a pool, especially when water is heavily chlorinated.

Another potential cause of dry skin is the use of strong detergents and soaps for the skin. Many deodorants or antibacterial soaps used in the shower can be very strong for your skin because they lose water and fat that protect and keep hydrated. Also, do not be surprised that your hands are dry after washing dishes or clothes without wearing gloves, because the detergents used in these cases were designed to clean hard surfaces and not to protect your hands.

External factors such as these, all related to the environment in which you are, are among the most common causes of dry skin. But it may also be that your skin is dry due to some personal condition or illness you have.

For example, age is a factor in the relentless dry skin. With aging, your skin begins to experience natural changes that make it drier.

It is also said that dry skin can have genetic causes. So if someone close to your family suffers from dryness, it may be that you have inherited this tendency.

With regard to disease, psoriasis can be one of causes of dry skin. This is a medical condition for which points are formed dryness and roughness concentrated in specific parts of your skin such as elbows or legs for example.

Hypothyroidism is usually also causes dry skin because when your body does not produce enough hormones from the thyroid, stop sweating or producing natural oil that moisturizes and protects.

But if you see that dry arises suddenly, is growing rapidly, accompanied by itching (itching), increased redness and scaling up on your skin, you may have dermatitis. This is a skin inflammation caused by some specific substance or touched you fell over at some point. In that case you need to consult with a physician immediately.

In all other cases, dry skin can be corrected with daily habits and home remedies that will continue to share with you in life and health.

There are now several studies that have found a relationship between adolescents who sleep little and the lower grades in school or a reduced ability to assimilate knowledge. Learn about these studies linking good rest with the ability to learn.
Teens tend to stay up later, involved in many activities, hanging out with friends and enjoy the nightlife. Then, of course, if they could delay the clock in the morning to sleep a little longer.

Can this affect them in school? There are several studies that have attempted to answer this question. One was done by some psychologists of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, USA, found that students and night owls who like to be awake at night and sleep over in the morning, tend to have lower scores on the school and early college years, a pattern that changes when they adopt new sleep patterns.

To reach these results, which were presented at the annual conference of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (SLEEP 2011), held in the U.S., researchers analyzed responses from 89 students at different points in their studies, for example, before entering college and after completing the first year of study. Based on initial responses, the youth divided into three groups: larks (early risers), owls and owls (owls) and regular (who were alert between 8 or 9 in the morning and tired around 10 pm).

They found that the owls slept about 41 minutes less than their peers and others had poor sleep habits such as drinking caffeine around the time of going to sleep and woke up several times during the night. At first, students who slept less showed a lower average grades, but this was changed as students progressed in their careers and end notes were similar.

While these results are preliminary and must be corroborated by other professionals, are not the only ones that come to those conclusions. Another group of psychologists, in this case St. Lawrence University in New York, USA, found that students attending classes later slept more but they were also more likely to get lower grades and to consume more alcohol (something can also affect sleep). To reach these results, the researchers analyzed the responses of 253 college students regarding their cognitive tasks, their sleep habits, some details of the activities performed in class, alcohol consumption and mood.

On the other hand, a group of neurologists in California, United States, tried to find a physical connection between sleep and learning and found that sleep at night is essential to learn and incorporate new knowledge, as this process occurs during the phase of break in which no one dreams, which is the period that occupies most of the night.

To reach these conclusions, which were published in the journal Current Biology, the researchers worked with young adults who must perform a difficult memory task designed to load memories in the hippocampus (the brain structure involved in learning). Then, half of the volunteers slept a nap of 90 minutes and the rest remained awake. At night, all made a new learning task. What happened? Those who were awake had difficulty remembering new information while on the other hand, participants who enjoyed the nap did better than their colleagues tired.

During sleep, the researchers recorded brain waves with an EEG and found that the more sleep spindles showed the volunteers were better able to learn. What are sleep spindles? Are specific brain waves break occurring up to a thousand times a night, and one theory is that these impulses lead the memories of the hippocampus to the prefrontal cortex, hippocampus freeing to receive new information.

According to experts, much of that brain activity occurs during the second half of the night. So if a person sleeps six hours or less may have fewer spindles and limit their ability to learn.

Research in this field are many and varied, and of course continue to seek to identify how the brain works and how it relates to learning and sleep. Meanwhile, you know, sleep and rest properly can help you not only feel better the next day but to be more attentive and that lesson in mathematics or physics that it costs much, much easier to understand.

Good rest is essential for children to develop strong and healthy. How many times must sleep to do? Is it natural to sleep a lot? Here’s a guide for you to help your child to rest what they need … and we all sleep peacefully.

Some of the concerns that reveal parents, especially first-timers, revolve around the hours of sleep in children. If this is your case, you may ask yourself things like: How many hours should sleep? Is it healthy to share the bed with Mom and Dad? Should sleep in a row? or How long should naps?

All these questions are natural, and no wonder, for good sleep helps children grow healthy and strong. The first thing to know is that sleep needs change as time passes. During the first months of life, for example, babies sleep most of the day and wake up every three or four hours to eat. Thus, although it seems much, babies up to six months need about 16 to 20 hours to recover the energy and learn to defend themselves outside the womb.

Gradually, times are ordering until the child unable to sleep at night in a row. Even when it reaches three years old, is likely to sleep 10 to 13 hours per night, and that’s normal, do not have to worry.
The sleep routine will change as your child grows. Note that, in general, children need more sleep than adults. And while growth in each stage of sleep needs are different, the important thing is to learn from small to have a healthy routine for sleep and rest well, as each person is different and customs can vary from one to another.

In general, it is considered that children 3 to 5 years old need to sleep 10 to 12 hours per night, with a period of nap during the day. Around five years of age, children often drop naps. Then you may need to advance them the time to go to bed at night.

During this stage, it could also be that the child gets enough sleep at night and not need to take naps during the day. In such cases, you can replace it with a period of quiet and rest. Therefore, in most nurseries and kindergartens there are moments of tranquility in which children lie on mats or rest in some way.

From 6 years and up to the pre teens, children need 10 to 12 hours of sleep a night, but need not be strict with this. Perhaps some prefer to spread the hours between night and nap.

The important thing at this stage is to incorporate good sleep practices, as it is at this time that the problems can start when you go to sleep. Why? Because children are beginning to have more independence: they increase the social, family and school, and are attracted by the television, computer (the computer) and games, which can keep them awake longer and delay the schedule they want to go to bed.

If you add this chaotic family schedules, it is easy to identify the cause of children not getting enough sleep, which can affect their behavior. Children who do not sleep well may be irritable, be hyperactive and have trouble paying attention in class or feel tired during the day.

Upon reaching adolescence, requirements as to the amount of sleep are similar to those of adults: teenagers need to sleep 8 to 10 hours per night, although most of them do not sleep. And while the rest remains as important at this stage as in previous social pressures typical of this age turn against this habit as healthy.

In addition, physical changes make adolescents want to stay awake at night and catch up on sleep during the day, which is impossible since, in general, have to get up early for classes and then must meet a lot of tasks to do at home as well as other extra-curricular and social activities that make it looks like sleep last priority.

Therefore, in addition, teens often try to catch up on sleep during the weekend. However, lack of sleep builds up and if you add one hour less sleep per night you get a whole night without sleep at the end of a week. This figure is not to fall asleep on its laurels, as the lack of sleep can make your child has less ability to pay attention and miss the short-term memory and performance and response time.

It is true that in today’s society seems to happen all too quickly. What do you get running so much? Explain to your children that there is a time for everything and that, well rested, not only can enjoy the bed but also each of the activities they do. And the main thing will set very early in childhood, healthy habits and bedtime.

The effects of the protein or soy flour on iron absorption are unclear. Studies in the 1980′s indicated a reduction in iron absorption, although recent research did not notice either no effect or increased iron absorption in people who consumed soy. People who used iron supplements and soy products should ask a health professional to follow up your iron levels in blood. Can also be altered levels of calcium and phosphate.

Some experts believe there may be an interaction between soy extract and Panax ginseng, but this potential interaction is not well characterized.

Apparently prebiotics (complex sugars) have no effect on the way the body absorbs the soybean is not yet clear whether probiotics (which are commonly found in cultured milk products such as yogurt) affect the absorption of soy.

Soy may also interact with herbs or supplements taken for cancer, diabetes, diarrhea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, or cardiovascular disorders. In theory, various types of soy can interact with antibacterial agents, antioxidants, anticoagulants, diuretics, immunomodulators, phytoestrogens, or thyroid hormones. There is a lack of conclusive human data for these interactions. Patients should consult a qualified health professional including a pharmacist.

Soy has been studied with various foods, herbs and supplements, such as avocado, beta-sitosterol, black cohosh, branched chain amino acids, green tea, lecithin, lycopene, magnesium, magnolia bark extract, oats, seaweed , spirulina and tomatoes. There is a lack of sufficient scientific evidence to make firm conclusions about the effects when taken together.

Theoretically, the soy protein may inhibit the absorption of calcium and phosphate, and increase the absorption of manganese. Soy may also reduce levels of zinc and selenium in the blood. Soy nuts may reduce levels of blood sugar, but the magnitude of this effect is uncertain. Genistein, a major component of soy, can alter the way certain herbs and supplements are broken down in the liver.

The interactions listed below are based on reports in scientific publications, laboratory experiments or traditional use. Always read product labels. If you have a medical condition or are taking other drugs, herbs or supplements, you should consult with a qualified healthcare provider before starting a new therapy.

Interactions with Drugs

Soy contains “phytoestrogens” (plant compounds with weak properties similar to estrogen) such as isoflavones. It is not clear if isoflavones stimulate or block estrogen’s effects, or both (acting as “receptor agonist / antagonist”). It is not known if taking soy supplements or soy isoflavones increases or reduces the effects of estrogen in the body, as the risk of blood clots. It is unclear if soy alters the effectiveness of oral contraceptives containing estrogen.

The effects of soy phytoestrogens on anti-tumor effects of selective modulators of estrogen receptors, such as tamoxifen. The effects of aromatase inhibitors such as anastrozole (Arimidex ®), exemestane (Aromasin ®) or letrozole (Femara ®) can be reduced. Because of the potential properties similar to estrogen in soy, people receiving these drugs should consult their oncologist before consuming soy in amounts greater than those normally found in food.

Soy protein can interact with warfarin (Coumadin ®), although this potential interaction is not well characterized. Patients taking warfarin should consult a physician or pharmacist before taking soy supplements.

Genistein, a major component of soy, can alter the way certain drugs are broken down in the liver.
Soy may also potentially interact with agents taken for diabetes, diarrhea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, or cardiovascular disorders. In theory, various types of soy may interact with antibiotics, diuretics, iron salts, immunosuppressants, or thyroid hormones. There is a lack of conclusive human data for these interactions. Patients are advised to consult with a qualified health professional including a pharmacist.

Traditionally it was considered that soy as part of normal feeding is not harmful during pregnancy and lactation, although research is limited in these areas. The effects on humans of high doses of soy or soy isoflavones are not clear and therefore not recommended.

Recent studies show that isoflavones, which may have properties similar to estrogen, are transferred from mothers to infants through breast milk. High doses of isoflavones given to pregnant animals resulted in tumors and reproductive changes in the offspring, but this has not been studied in humans.

In a study in humans, male babies born to women who ingested soy milk or soy products during pregnancy were more hypospadias (a birth defect in which the urinary meatus, the opening where urine passes, abnormally located on the underside of the penis). However, other studies in humans and animals that looked at women and men than infants were fed soy formula showed no abnormalities in growth, head circumference, height, weight, onset of puberty, menstruation, or reproductive capacity.

Research conducted in children during the first year of life found that the substitution of soy formula for cow’s milk may be linked to a significant reduction in bone mineral density. Parents considering the use of soy formula should speak with a qualified health care professional to ensure that the formula contains the proper vitamins and minerals.

Soy can act as an allergen similar to milk, eggs, peanuts, fish and wheat. Symptoms of allergic reaction can range from a runny nose, until a sudden drop in blood pressure.

Side Effects and Warnings

Soy has been one of the staples of the population in many countries for over 5,000 years and is unlikely to be toxic in the long term. Have been reported minor side effects in infants, children and adults, apart from allergic reactions.

Soy protein taken by mouth has been linked to stomach and intestinal problems such as bloating, nausea and constipation. Changes in the quality of the stool have been reported. Less commonly reported more serious intestinal side effects in infants fed formula of soy proteins, including vomiting, diarrhea, stunted growth and damage to and bleeding in the intestinal walls. People who cow’s milk causes intestinal irritation (colitis) may also react to soy formula.

According to case reports in humans and animal research, soy may affect thyroid hormone in infants. There are rare reports of goiter (swollen neck due to the increase of the thyroid). Hormone levels return to normal when you stop to soybeans. Infants fed soy formula or cow’s milk may also have higher rates of atopic eczema than infants fed breast milk.

It has been reported acute migraine with the use of a product of soy isoflavones. According to animal research, regularly eating raw soybeans or flour or soy protein powder from raw beans, not roasted or unfermented, can damage the pancreas.

It is often recommended that patients with hormone-sensitive cancers such as breast, ovarian and uterine cancer, do not consume soy for its potential effects similar to those of estrogen (which theoretically may stimulate tumor growth). Theoretically, other hormone-sensitive conditions such as endometriosis, may also worsen. Laboratory studies have not made clear if isoflavones stimulate or block estrogen’s effects, or both (acting as a “receptor agonist / antagonists”). Until more research is available, patients with these disorders should be cautious and speak with a qualified health professional before use.

It is not known if soy or soy isoflavones have the same effects of estrogen, such as an increased risk of blood clots. Preliminary studies suggest that soy isoflavones, unlike estrogens, do not cause the endometrium (the lining of the uterus) to bulge.

Reported a case of rickets vitamin D deficiency in an infant fed soy milk is not intended specifically for infants. Patients should consult a qualified health care professional about the updated recommendations on breastfeeding and the use of formulas with adequate nutritional value.

Soy is a subtropical plant native to Southeast Asia. This member of the pea family (Fabaceae) grows from one to five feet tall and forms clusters of three to five pods with two to four grains. Soy has been a staple food in Asian countries for at least 5,000 years. During the Chou Dynasty in China (1134-246 BC), fermentation techniques were discovered that allowed soy to be prepared in more easily digestible, such as tempeh, miso and tamari soy sauce. Tofu was invented in China in the second century.

Soy was introduced to Europe in the eighteenth century and the United States in the nineteenth century. The cultivation of soybeans began a large scale in the United States during World War II. At present, farmers in the Midwestern United States produces about half the world supply of soybeans.

Soy contains protein, isoflavones, and fiber, all of which are thought to benefit health. Soy is an excellent source of dietary protein, including all essential amino acids. Soy is also a source of lecithin or phospholipid. Soy isoflavones and lecithin have been studied scientifically for numerous health conditions. It is believed that isoflavones such as genistein have similar effects to estrogen in the body and as a result, sometimes called “phytoestrogens.”

Common sources of soy isoflavones include soy roasted green soybeans, soy flour, tempeh, tofu, yogurt, tofu, soy hot dogs, miso, soy butter, soy nut butter, soy ice cream, soy milk, soy yogurt, tofu pups ®, tofu, seitan, and soy noodles. Soybean meal is in Spanish sausage (chorizo, salami, mortadella, and ham), donut, and bouillon cubes. Although soybean meal processed (for example, veggie burgers, tofu pups ®, dinner entrees without meat, no chicken medallions, “frozen” energy bars and soy) are usually high in protein, typically have lower levels of isoflavones.

Soy protein has also been investigated for benefits in terms of other risk factors for cardiovascular disease, reducing symptoms of menopause, weight loss, arthritis, brain function, and improve exercise performance. Dietary soy may reduce the risk of breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men as well as other cancers. In general, supporting evidence is limited to the use of phytoestrogens as a treatment for menopause, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis (bone weakness), and cancer. The use of soy formula has been investigated in the treatment of diarrhea in infants and is an effective and safe alternative to cow’s milk formula in most children. Due to limited human study, there is currently insufficient evidence to recommend for or against the use of soy for weight reduction.

Soy or Soy is a subtropical plant, native to Southeast Asia. This member of the family as peas or peas (Fabaceae) grows from one to five feet (30 to 150 cms) tall and forms clusters of three to five pods, each with two to four grains (or soybeans) . Soy has been a staple in Asian countries for at least 5,000 years. During the Chou Dynasty in China (1134-246 BC), fermentation techniques were discovered that allow the soy preparations in easily digestible forms such as tempeh, miso and tamari soy sauce.

Soy contains protein, isoflavones and fiber, all of which are considered beneficial to health. Soy is an excellent source of dietary protein, including all essential amino acids. Soy is also a source of lecithin or phospholipid. Soy isoflavones and lecithin have been studied scientifically in numerous health conditions. It is believed that isoflavones such as genistein have estrogen-like effects in the body, and as a result are sometimes called “phytoestrogens”.

Common sources of isoflavones include soy roasted soybeans, green soybeans, soy flour, tempeh, tofu, yogurt, tofu, soy sausage, miso, butter, soy nut butter soy, soy ice cream, soy milk, soy yogurt, tofu pups the ®, tofu, seitan and soy noodles. Soybean meal is in the Spanish sausage (chorizo, salami, mortadella and ham), on donuts and bouillon cubes. Although soy processed foods (for example, veggie burgers, the tofu pups ®, meatless main dishes, the nuggets of “chicken” soy ice cream and soy energy bars) are generally high in protein, usually contain lower levels of isoflavones.

In a new study, researchers assessed whether soy supplements may be useful as an alternative to estrogen therapy. They recruited 90 Chinese postmenopausal women aged 45 to 60 years of age, and randomly assigned to receive daily placebo, a low dose of soy germ or a high dose of soy germ. We evaluated several outcome measures, including the frequency of hot flashes, before treatment and again 12 and 24 weeks thereafter.

The researchers reported that all participants experienced a reduction in hot flashes due to menopause after the study period. Women who received the low and high doses of soy germ experienced greater benefits, compared with those receiving placebo.

The research team concluded that supplementation with soy germ may be beneficial for women experiencing menopausal symptoms. However, more evidence is needed before it can recommend to soy germ as a potential alternative to estrogen therapy.

Soy protein has also been investigated for its potential benefits in other risk factors of cardiovascular disease, in reducing the symptoms of menopause, weight loss, in arthritis, in the improvement of cerebral function and improved exercise performance. Dietary intake of soy may reduce the risk of breast cancer in women and prostate cancer in men, and other cancers. But overall, the evidence supporting the use of phytoestrogens as a treatment for menopause, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis (bone weakness) and cancer is limited. The use of soy formula has been investigated for the treatment of diarrhea in infants and is an effective and safe alternative to cow’s milk formula for most babies. Due to a shortage of human studies, there is currently insufficient evidence to recommend for or against the use of soy for weight reduction.

Can I choose the sex of the baby?

With modern techniques it is possible to choose the sex of the baby, but in reality, very few cases where medically necessary to choose the sex of the offspring. Synthesizes only to cases of communicable diseases to a particular sex of the children, such as hemophilia, who pass the suffering of women and sons and sometimes severe ways that compromise the lives of children. In these cases there must always be parental consent, because often these techniques go against their religious or philosophical beliefs.

Where can perform these techniques?

These techniques are usually performed in centers specializing in infertility.

Home methods of low complexity

Shettles and Rorvik doctors, authors of “How to choose the sex of your baby,” based on their own experiences that the Y sperm (male children) are faster and live shorter lives than the X chromosome sperm (from daughters). It would be logical then that having sex on the date closest to ovulation would be far greater chance of having a baby male. They also advise that the relationship is in a position to allow penetration of the vagina very deep and that the female orgasm is prior to male ejaculation. There should be a withdrawal after 3 or 4 days prior to ovulation to have intercourse.

In case you are looking for a girl relationships should be kept 2 to 4 days prior to ovulation and avoid having orgasms during the period when they have sex, preferring the missionary position during intercourse. The authors of this technique ensures a success in 75% of cases.

Method Microsort

This procedure is based on a technique called flow cytometry. This technique differs by sperm carrying the X chromosome (which form a girl) of the Y chromosome sperm (which form a child). After the two separate sperm, artificial insemination technique in vitro procedure is completed and implemented a pregnancy with the desired sex.

This procedure is very expensive but has a 85% success in determining the sex of the embryo.

Semen separation technique

This method patented by Dr. Ericsson is based on the sperm carrying the Y chromosome (male) is lighter than the X chromosome bearing (female). By centrifuging the sperm with the Y chromosome sperm will be in the top of the semen and completing this treatment with in vitro fertilization techniques, you will reach a 80% success in choosing baby’s sex.

Selection of embryos

This procedure is performed in genetic laboratories. It is a form of IVF called pre-implantation diagnosis also.

Once the embryo has reached the multicellular level (blastula) you can extract from these cells and perform a genetic study to know the sex of the embryo, which allows implant embryos of one sex. Some embryos do not survive the removal of one of its cells, but those who survive will have no involvement. If successful pregnancy success rate of this method is 100%.
